Daoist Studies Summer Seminar
Join us for our annual remote 5-day intensive Daoist Studies Summer Seminar 道學沙龍 (DSSS), with a specific focus on developing a contemplative and practice-based Daoist approach to the Dàodé jīng 道德經 (Tào-té chīng; Scripture on the Dao and Inner Power). The seminar is scheduled from Monday, July 10 to Friday, July 14 from 10am-4pm CST each day. In this seminar, Dr. Komjathy will share his expertise as a leading Daoist scholar-practitioner and translator of Daoist literature, including his nearly thirty-year engagement with the Dàodé jīng. The seminar will take participants through the socio-historical context of the Dàodé jīng, specifically the inner cultivation lineages of classical Daoism, systematic outline of the text, and close textual reading. In the process, we will give particular attention to Daoist ways of reading, interpreting, and applying this foundational Daoist scripture (dàojīng 道經). There also will be optional Quiet Standing and Quiet Sitting sessions each day at 9:30am CST and 4:00pm CST, respectively. No prior experience, including knowledge of classical Chinese, is necessary. All are welcome.
